Auch am hellichten Tag sind Touristen in Rio nicht vor Überfällen sicher. Aus Angst vor Ärger schauen die Umstehenden oft weg, und die meist jugendlichen Räuber holen in aller Ruhe Kamera und Bargeld aus dem Rucksack des geschockten Urlaubers. Kein Einzelfall im sonnigen Rio, wo seit Januar 541 Überfälle auf ausländische Touristen allein für das Touristenviertel Copacabana gemeldet wurden. "Da muss man schnell und unbürokratisch etwas unternehmen, sonst gehen wir alle ein", sagte der Sprecher eines Vier-Sterne-Hotels. Reisebüros und Hotelbesitzer sind besorgt darüber, dass die Zahl der Straftaten so deutlich zugenommen hat.
